Rockers Review













1.       How does Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace from Rockers compare to Ivan Martin from The Harder They Come?

In my opinion, Ivan Martin is shown as an aggressive and selfish anti-hero, while Horsemouth was more like a hero who fights against injustice in a more peaceful way, and also as someone who helps others along his way.

2.      What is your favorite scene from the film? Why?

My favorite scene is when Horsemouth and Dirty Harry took over the DJ station at the party. I like this scene because it represents how the Rasta culture was taking place and gaining importance in in that period, and also because it shows how the police couldn’t repress this revolution, since it was a pacifist movement.

3.  Did you like/dislike the film? Why/Why Not?

I like this film because of its story an massage. This is the quest for a man to rise above his status and make himself and his community stronger. His values such as peace, love and fellowship are tested by the gangsters and a social system, who try to stop him. But he beats them and end up achieving his goal. I also have to add that I love the end of this film because it has a sweet and touching closing, in which you can fell the justice being done.

Jamaica Arise: The 75 Year History of the PNP

What was the role that the (PNP) played in the anti-colonial struggle? The People's National Party ( PNP) played a democratic and a mediator role in the anti-colonial struggle. It helped to fight against the oppressive system, and also the unfairness of the colonizers to the Jamaicans and the Negros, who were treated likes slaves, and in best cases had to work inhumanly to get some money in order to live. I think that it is also important to add, that the PNP remains until today as a model of search for equality and democratic rights. What was/is the role of women throughout the 75 years of the PNP? The Harder They Come Film Review

1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film? I really enjoyed this movie, especially because of the social commentary it makes of the Jamaican situation at that time, in which we can see a representation of the social injustice in Jamaica. Despite what I said before, I think there are some technical aspects that could have been improved in the film. I Know this is a guerrilla movie, but even though this fact, I think they could have made a better camera work.   2. Who is your favorite character from the film? My favorite character from the film is Ivan Martin. I think he is an antihero who represents in a perfect way, the violence of which the Jamaican people were submitted to at that time. Ivan has to be violent in this environment, in order to survive and achieve his dreams. His situation is just like the Jamaican people who had to fight for their rights at that time.  3.
