The Harder They Come Film Review



1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?


I really enjoyed this movie, especially because of the social commentary it makes of the Jamaican situation at that time, in which we can see a representation of the social injustice in Jamaica.

 Despite what I said before, I think there are some technical aspects that could have been improved in the film. I Know this is a guerrilla movie, but even though this fact, I think they could have made a better camera work.

 

2. Who is your favorite character from the film?


My favorite character from the film is Ivan Martin. I think he is an antihero who represents in a perfect way, the violence of which the Jamaican people were submitted to at that time. Ivan has to be violent in this environment, in order to survive and achieve his dreams. His situation is just like the Jamaican people who had to fight for their rights at that time. 


3. Would you recommend this film to someone, why/why not?



I would recommend it, because it is the first Jamaican film and as such it has a historical importance. I also think that it is very important, because it represents an example of the Jamaican people situation at that time from the perspective of themselves.

Jamaica Arise: The 75 Year History of the PNP

What was the role that the (PNP) played in the anti-colonial struggle? The People's National Party ( PNP) played a democratic and a mediator role in the anti-colonial struggle. It helped to fight against the oppressive system, and also the unfairness of the colonizers to the Jamaicans and the Negros, who were treated likes slaves, and in best cases had to work inhumanly to get some money in order to live.
